myCocoon keeps your health data on your iPhone by default. If you turn on Cloud AI, a defined set of pregnancy and health context is sent to Google's Gemini so the assistant can answer with your situation in mind. This policy is honest about every place data leaves your phone, what is sent, and to whom.
Who we are
myCocoon is made by a small independent team based in Australia. Contact us at support@trymycocoon.com.
The short version
- Cloud AI is off by default. While off, your health data, journal entries, photos, voice notes, mood, symptoms, and the values the iPhone Health app shares with us all stay on your iPhone or in your personal iCloud. We never receive them, and they never reach Google.
- If you turn Cloud AI on, your typed or spoken question is sent to Google's Gemini AI along with a structured summary of your pregnancy: week and trimester, conception method, multiples status, age, blood type, recent symptom names, mood and sleep summaries, and a daily summary of recent health signals (sleep hours, resting heart rate, steps, activity). Gemini also runs Google Search lookups in the background to find clinical references. The connection runs through our Google Cloud project on the way to Gemini.
- Our small service checks your subscription with Apple and receives Apple's renewal and refund notifications. It stores subscription status only. Never health data. Never journal content.
- App diagnostics. Anonymous crash reports and basic usage events (paywall views, feature taps) are sent to Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, both Google services. These never include health data.
- No ads. No data sales. No third-party advertising trackers. No advertising ID.
What data the app handles
Stored on your iPhone only (data from the iPhone Health app)
These values are read through Apple's Health app, which asks for your permission one signal at a time. They live in a place on your phone that is set up to never sync. They are not sent to your iCloud and they never reach our service. Apple's HealthKit guidelines forbid storing health data in iCloud, and we follow that rule.
- Heart rate, resting heart rate
- Sleep duration and sleep stages
- Blood pressure (if you record it in the Health app)
- Weight from the Health app (separate from any weight you record manually inside myCocoon)
- Step count, active energy
- Any other Health app value the app reads with your permission
Important caveat about Cloud AI. When Cloud AI is turned on, the assistant uses a daily summary of these signals to understand your situation. Specifically, your most recent sleep hours, resting heart rate, steps, and activity level are included in the question sent to Google's Gemini. These are calculated on your iPhone and then sent as part of the question. When Cloud AI is off, none of this leaves your phone.
Stored in your personal iCloud (syncs between your devices via Apple)
The following data syncs through your own iCloud account, the same one you already use for Photos, Notes, or Messages. Apple end-to-end encrypts it between your devices. We have no access to it.
- Pregnancy profile (due date, gender selection, preferences)
- Manually entered kick counts, contractions, symptoms, weight, mood
- Journal entries (text, voice notes you record)
- Bump photos (kept as photo references plus thumbnails)
- Appointments
- AI-generated factual captions and reflection questions for your journal
If you delete the app, iCloud removes this data automatically. If you sign out of iCloud, the app falls back to storing everything only on the device.
Data sent to AI services (only when you turn on Cloud AI)
Cloud AI is off by default. You choose whether to turn it on during onboarding or later in Settings. When Cloud AI is on, myCocoon uses Google's Gemini AI for complex medical questions, voice conversations, and grounded health answers with citations. The connection runs through our Google Cloud project on the way to Gemini.
When Cloud AI is on and you ask a question, by typing or by voice, the following is sent to Google:
- Your question, exactly as you typed it. For voice, the typed-out version of what you spoke
- Your first name (if you have set one) and your baby's name (if you have set one)
- Your pregnancy week, trimester, days remaining, and due date
- Pregnancy profile fields you have shared: conception method (e.g. natural, IVF, IUI), multiples status (singleton, twins, triplets), your age, blood type, pregnancy history, and any risk factors you have recorded
- Recent symptom names and how many times you logged each in the last 7 days
- A daily summary of health signals from the iPhone Health app: sleep hours, resting heart rate, steps, and activity level
- Mood data: a trend word ("positive", "low", "mixed") and a numeric average for the last 14 days
- Kick session totals for today and the peak hour
- Pre-pregnancy weight and your weight trend over the last 4 weeks
- Whether you have taken your prenatal vitamin today
- Recent topics you have searched in the app
- Titles of upcoming appointments and how many days away they are
- Your local time of day and approximate locale
Gemini also has Google Search "grounding" enabled. That means Gemini may run follow-up searches based on your question to find clinical references and citations. Those searches go through Google Search.
Specifically NOT sent to Google, regardless of Cloud AI state: your full legal name, partner name, journal entry text, bump photos, voice recordings as audio (only the typed-out version of voice questions is sent), the full history of values from the Health app beyond the daily summary above, or appointment locations and notes.
When Cloud AI is off, all questions are answered using your iPhone's built-in AI (Apple Intelligence) on your device, or with pre-written informational templates. Nothing leaves your phone in that mode.
Google's Gemini privacy policy and Apple's Apple Intelligence privacy policy govern what those providers do with the data they receive: Google Cloud privacy notice, Firebase privacy and data handling, Apple Intelligence privacy.
We do not keep your question, the context we attached to it, or Gemini's response on our service. The data passes through on the way to Google as part of answering you and is not written to our database. Google may keep questions and responses according to its own enterprise privacy terms.
You can turn Cloud AI off at any time in Settings · Cloud AI. Once off, the app answers every AI request on the phone itself and nothing further is sent.
Photo location and weather enrichment
When you import a photo to your journal that has GPS information attached (most iPhone photos taken with location services on), the photo's coordinates and the date are sent to two services to add context to the journal entry:
- Open-Meteo (a free European weather archive at open-meteo.com) to fetch the historical temperature and weather condition for the date and location of the photo. Coordinates are rounded to about 1km before sending. No account, no key.
- Apple's MapKit reverse geocoding to translate the coordinates into a place name (e.g. "Bondi Beach, Sydney") that appears in the caption of your journal entry.
Coordinates are not stored on our service. The fetched weather and place name are kept on your device and synced to your iCloud, never to our servers. The photos themselves never leave your device or your iCloud.
If you do not want photo location to be used for enrichment, turn off location services for the Camera app (Settings · Privacy & Security · Location Services · Camera) so your photos do not include GPS information.
Subscription verification (our small service)
When you start a subscription or restore a purchase, myCocoon sends Apple's signed receipt to a small service we run. The service confirms the receipt with Apple, then writes a short record saying you have an active subscription. The record contains:
- A randomly generated user ID stored privately on your iPhone (we never tie it to your name or email)
- The subscription product ID, expiry date, and Apple transaction IDs
- Whether you are in a billing grace period
It does not contain any health data, journal content, photos, or anything else you have entered into the app. The same record is updated when Apple sends us a renewal or refund notification.
Our service runs on Google Cloud in the United States. The record is never shared with third parties.
App diagnostics (Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics)
myCocoon uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, both Google products, to understand how the app is used and to catch bugs.
These services receive anonymous events such as:
- Which screens you view (e.g. paywall, journey tab), not the contents of those screens
- Feature interactions (e.g. subscription started, AI question sent)
- Errors and crash logs
- Device model, iOS version, app version
These services receive nothing from your health data, your journal entries, your photos, your symptoms, your moods, your kicks, or anything else you have entered into the app. We do not enable cross-app advertising IDs (the iPhone setting called IDFA), and we do not share this data with advertisers.
If you would prefer no diagnostic data is sent at all, iOS gives you a system-wide control. Settings · Privacy & Security · Analytics & Improvements · Share with App Developers. Turn off.
Data we never collect
- Your real name, email address, or phone number (unless you email support, in which case we obviously have your email)
- Your contact list
- Your photos outside what you explicitly add to the app
- Cross-app advertising tracking IDs (IDFA)
- Anything from the iPhone Health app when you have not granted permission
Marketing website (trymycocoon.com)
This website is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may log anonymous request data (IP address, browser type, page URL) for security and performance. The site uses no tracking cookies, no ad networks, and no third-party analytics.
Children
myCocoon is not designed for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
Most of your data lives on your iPhone and your iCloud, where you have full control. To remove it:
- Delete the app. Removes everything stored locally and removes the app's slice of your iCloud.
- Revoke Health app permissions. Settings · Privacy & Security · Health · myCocoon.
- Disable iCloud sync for the app. Settings · Apple ID · iCloud · Apps Using iCloud · myCocoon.
For the small amount of data on our service (subscription record, diagnostic events), email support@trymycocoon.comand we will delete it. Under GDPR, CCPA, or the Australian Privacy Act, you have the right to request access, correction, or deletion. Email is the fastest way to use those rights.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, the new version is posted at this URL with the "Last updated" date changed. Substantive changes will be announced inside the app.
